1/21/10 -Eugene Melnyk, Senators, Cullen, TFC

Host: Bob McCown
Co-Host: John Shannon
Guests: Basketball writer for the Globe and Mail, Michael Grange; Elliotte Friedman from "Hockey Night in Canada" on CBC, Eugene Melnyk, Ottawa Senators owner; Dan Shulman, ESPN broadcaster, Don Banks, writer for Sports Illustrated; David Branch, commissioner of the OHL; comedian Sean Cullen

It seems every time Melnyk comes on, McCown doesn't really talk about the Senators in any great detail, other than the cursory "how's the team doin'?" kinda questions. Melnyk always seems to be questioned about the PTS world more than anything. Since the tired notion of addressing the head shot issue was the topic of the week, that's what the conversation revolved around.

I thought Sean Cullen was the funniest thing on PTS in a long time! ...and Bobcat, just go to a TFC game the next time you get the opportunity. Or at least swear off of leaf games, will ya???

Prime Time Sports with Bob McCown: Thursday, September 17, 2009 (5:00-7:00)

Host: Bob McCown
Co-Host: Stephen Brunt
Guests: Rob Becker, lawyer based in New York; Doug Smith, Toronto Star basketball writer; owner of the Ottawa Senators, Eugene Melnyk; ESPN baseball play-by-play announcer, Dan Shulman; Mitch Melnick, show host on the Team 990 in Montreal.

McCown for a Senate seat? I've always known deep down that McCown wished he was an Ottawa Senator!!!

To hear Shulman, Brunt and McCown reminisce about announcers is really interesting as I think the three of them will go down amongst the top Canadian broadcasters of our generation. 30 years from now, the three of them will be discussed in the same vein.

Mark my words, Melnyk's words will be used by Balsillie in court saying that teams do have a veto over the territorial rights. The owners will fight the league on their stance that teams do not have that right.

Prime Time Sports with Bob McCown - Thursday, March 19 (6:00-7:00)

Host: Bob McCown
Co-Host: Stephen Brunt
Guests: Eugene Melnyk, owner of the Ottawa Senators; hockey colour commentator for NBC and Versus, Ed Olczyk; Toronto Raptors radio play-by-play team, Eric Smith and Paul Jones.

Melnyk lost out on his bid to acquire an MLS franchise, and now is in a real fight to secure the City of Ottawa's support vs his rival CFL wannabees, Minto et al. McCown and Brunt called Melnyk on the reason why a merging couldn't happen, which is what all of Ottawa is asking. Living in Ottawa, I neither have a rooting interest in CFL or MLS. But I can tell ya one thing, I don't want my tax dollars going to either of these groups. I would be more willing to part with a *bit* of my tax dollars to go to a combined facility that both groups would use. If I'm a betting man, the CFL is a heckuva lot closer coming to Ottawa than MLS, and Melnyk knows it.
