Prime Time Sports with Bob McCown: Monday, May 25, 2009 (5:00-7:00)

Host: Jeff Blair
Co-Host: Jim Kelley
Guests: JP Ricciardi

Apologies if McCown's sick, but why Prime Time Sports never advises listeners in advance of being away, I'm not sure. Heck, they certainly advised JP Ricciardi, didn't they? Otherwise, he'd never have shown up as a guest!!!

BTW, there is still no worse feeling in the world than tuning in on Monday, seeing the Prime Time Sports logo, hearing the Prime Time Sports music, and seeing someone who isn't Bob McCown. Absolutely no disrespect meant to any of the co-hosts, but my bias is 100% clear. If ain't Bob McCown, it ain't Prime Time Sports.

(Bobcat, feel free to use this during negotiation time!)

Am I the only one that feels that way? Post your comments below!

  1. Well, the man has to take vacation. I agree it wouldn't kill them for McCown to say on a Friday if he's going to be gone for the next week and who the host will be. You're right about Ricciardi. Not that I'm necessarily complaining, but I thought Toth was supposed to be always next in line when McCown's not hosting.

  2. Blair was awful tonight.

I cut him some slack as a host because he has no experience in that capacity. But his opinions bordered on the ludicrous.

Jose Calderon isn't good enough to be a starting PG in the NBA?

Its good when officials screw up calls?

I just don't think he's very bright. And his attutude could use a serious adjustment.

Kirke contributed nothing tonight. He only seems to be insightful when discussing legal issues or the business of sports.

I am very impressed with Grange. This guy has a bright future in sports media. I hope McCown will have him on more often.

Kelly was Kelly. He's a mixed bag, but I don't mind him on most nights.

I think Blair is only hosting because Rob Faulds is doing the Memorial Cup. I was pleasantly surprised by how strong Faulds was as a fill-in. Let's hope he'll return next time the Bobcat takes time off.

  3. Anonymous - Yep, the Bobcat definitely has earned a vacation, but for listeners, they should tell us as such.

Chris - The one guy that impressed me the most was Elliotte Friedman. I think he hosted either last summer, or the summer before. I personally think he was doing so well on Prime Time, CBC were afraid of losing him in the future.

What about Strombolopolous? Think CBC would even let him appear on the round table?

Great comments - I'll answer as many as I can, so keep 'em coming!

  4. Blair lost any credibility he had when he bragged that he did not vote for Gary Carter for the Hall of Fame in order to get back at him for a disagreement they had.

Friedman was excellent when he was a co-host or guest host of PTS. However he has not been allowed on that show for several years because he works for CBC and PTS is shown on Sportsnet.

If you don't like it when McCown is on vacation then you better not listen this summer because he will probably be away more often than not.

  5. I agree Friedman is really good. He had a really good story about Perdita Felicien at the Olympics when she crashed saying that she looked through every nook and cranny to avoid talking to reporters. I tried to find an email address for this guy but never see one!
